With a title like this, it’s almost guaranteed to spark some interest…am I right? I know that we’re all looking for that magic bullet cure, fix, or trick.
And although there’s not one sole thing out there that’s going to make everything bad go away, there are a BUNCH of little techniques to employ that can make a huge difference on your overall health.
So today I’m giving you information on something that I believe EVERYONE should start implementing today!

So what am I talking about?
Please, let me introduce to you the shower filter! This is actually something that I’ve been using for about 4 years now, and although I don’t notice any huge differences in my overall health, I recognize that it’s good to have.
Just by knowing that I’m removing harmful particles from my water is enough to keep my mind at ease.
One thing that seems to have been catching on within the health world is water quality, and this is a very big thing to be aware of.
I mean, if you think about it logically, every living organism requires water to live; therefore, its quality is of the utmost importance as well!
But you see, therein lies the problem! Most people are only focusing on “drinking water,” which is good, I’ll give you that, but it’s only half the battle…
As you can probably tell, I’m all about drinking high quality H2O as much as I can – this is for sure. But remember, we humans use water for more than just drinking.
What I’m talking about is the water that comes in contact with our bodies on a daily basis.
Let me explain…
Your shower can become a toxic gas chamber!
Yea, that’s right! That shower of yours, if not filtered correctly, can be quite dangerous. Now this is not something to freak out about or anything, so please relax.
If you’re reading this now, it means you’re willing to possibly make some changes, and this is already very good news! All I’m trying to do is get that awareness meter up so these easy changes can transpire with ease. Cool?
Ok, so let’s proceed.
It’s stated that on average, most people drink about a gallon of water per day; again, this is an estimate.
This water intake I speak of can come from drinking, taking a shower (inhalation), and even from the foods you eat. Remember, some foods have a lot of water in them.
And being that people pretty much need H2O on a daily basis to function adequately, it also means that they are consuming mass amounts of chlorine everyday as well, and this is NOT good.
The chlorine factor is a huge reason why I advise most people to drink filtered water as much as they can; it’s simply not worth the risk.
Chlorine is a carcinogenic (cancer causing) compound that can be quite destructive, obviously. And I bring this up today because people really don’t think about all of this when they’re taking a shower.
I mean who really thinks of inhaling chemicals while their cleaning up?
Some speculate that while bathing, chlorine can not only be absorbed through the skin, but inhaled through the mouth and nasal passages as well! When I heard about this, I didn’t even hesitate on getting a filter, I bought one the very next day! It just kind of freaked me out!
I’m only saying this because that steamy shower you can’t wait to jump into may be working against you and your desired health goals. And let’s face the facts here; ANY advice out there to avoid diseases like cancer is definitely worth sharing.
This is why I’m so adamant on the shower topic; it can literally save someone’s life if acted on properly.
Put it this way, the less chlorine in one’s life, the better. And this can all start with the water you’re using to clean yourself.
So what’s the big deal with chlorine anyway?
Well, for starters, there have been countless studies on the effects of choline on the body, and I’ll be listing a few of them at the end of this post. Science has linked up chlorine with conditions like cancer (as stated above), and even asthma.
On top of those two ailments is the overall effect it can have on one’s immunity, something that can cause other very dangerous health conditions to develop. It’s definitely some serious stuff.
Chlorine can wreak havoc on various systems within the body, and I don’t think you need me to tell you that this is not a good thing. It’s just a bad chemical to have in high concentrations within the body on a daily basis.
This entire subject is also why I often stay away from chlorinated pools. I don’t feel comfortable swimming in a giant, health declining, and very contaminated pool of water.
The vapor and skin absorption factors are simply too much of a risk in my opinion. If you’re looking for a swim, I recommend going to the ocean, or to a lake if you have access.
If you can’t make it to such great natural swimming locations, make sure the pools you’re swimming in are not loaded with toxic chemicals. Luckily, pool companies are stepping up their game in the natural treatment of water these days, and this is great!
If you have a pool, I’d strongly recommend looking into some natural alternatives for keeping it clean. From my understanding (not 100% sure though), there are some saline-based solutions that one can utilize if looking to go the natural route.
Not only is this more natural approach going to be good for you, it will be equally beneficial for your family and loved ones as well.
Do you really want your kids swimming in a pool of chemicals that have been linked to cancer development?
I’d say no!
With all of the swimming business aside, let’s jump back into the drinking water issue.
Other steps you can take
As stated above, a filter is hands down one of the best things to invest in. The nice thing about it also, is that you only have to change the cartridge every 4 to 6 months.
But trust me, it’s easy to forget that these things need changing! I definitely know about that!
The charcoal filtration systems are quite simple: a hard case with a replaceable cartridge inside. And remembering to swap these old ones out for new ones will keep your showers fresh and less toxic all year long! Now doesn’t that sound nice?
But wait, there’s another route to take as well
That’s right, you can take all of this a bit further if you don’t mind dropping some extra cash. What I’m talking about is a whole house filtration system.
Now, for many people this is an unattainable option, and I fully understand that. Maybe you live in an apartment, or you don’t own your home, or maybe money is tight. No problem, I just want to put the information out there so you can weigh it all out accordingly.
If none of the above areas apply to your current situation, I strongly recommend looking into filtering your entire house. Estimates for this installation seem to run anywhere from about $1,500 to about $2,000.
I know, I know, it’s a little pricy, but just think about how clean that water will be once it’s installed!
By investing in such a system, you will not have to worry about individual filters scattered throughout your home.
This means, your drinking water, and even that shower of yours will be good to go!!! If it’s coming from your home, you needn’t worry if you have a whole house filtration system. It’s completely legitimate!
There’s more than just chlorine to worry about
I know, I often have the ability to scare people at times, but it’s all in good spirit.
What I’m talking about here is how other chemicals like fluoride, toxic medications, and even lead can be an issue to consider in many municipal water systems.
For some time now, the public has been under a strict poisoning regimen. Although I’m not sure as to why this is all happening, I do have my theories (but I won’t get into these today).
Maybe we’ll just save that idea for a future post :)
Water reports throughout the United Stated and other modernized countries all show similar trends: mass amounts of chemicals and toxic residues within the public supply.
And what’s even more troubling is that most of these chemicals are dumped in by government agencies by means of “benefiting” the public (yea, I now, sounds crazy right?).
The main thing to look at here is that we (the masses) are sold on junk science lies. For example, claiming that fluoride is beneficial for the body is completely incorrect.
These falsified assertions are killing mass amounts of people, and it needs to stop.
The fluoride issue is one that has been under debate for some time now and has also shown very little progress in the right direction. And as stated above, most of it has to do with being sold incorrect information.
Luckily, there are agencies fighting this “dumbing down” process. And I say “dumbing down” for a specific reason – fluoride can actually affect one’s IQ. Don’t believe me? Read this!
There is so much research out there pointing to the dangers involving fluoride that it’s worth recognizing as a true health danger, and I’ll be listing a couple more toward the end of this post.
The bad news here is that fluoride is actually quite hard to filter out of the water, but we’ll talk about all of that in the near future…I promise.
Remember, some is better than none
As with every post, I give a take home message. For this article I’ll leave it with the “some is better than none” stance.
The reason I’m advocating this style of living is simply because it’s truly tuned for better health! If you can actively implement some type of filtering regimen into your life, not only will your health get better, but you family’s will as well.
It’s all about being conscious of what’s going on around you. If you can start to see this water issue for what it really is, a threat, you’ll be in better shape. I can promise you that.
So, even if you find yourself drinking a glass of tap water, try not to stress too hard. The goal is to try and filter at least 90% of the water you use and drink on a daily basis. And although filters can’t snag every single detrimental particle from your supply, removing the majority is totally worth it.
So how are you going to approach this issue? Are you going to spend 40 bucks on an easy-to-install filter, or are you going to chance it?
Let me know, as I’m curious to see what your stance is on this common problem.
